UCT English Language Centre unveils new premises in Cape Town

UCT English Language Centre (ELC) has officially settled into its new home at Dover House, marking an important milestone in the centre’s continued evolution as one of South Africa’s top university-based English language centres.

One month into the move and the new premises have already begun welcoming students into a space designed to support not only language learning, but community and the broader student experience.

Located in Cape Town on Orange Street, the new environment offers 20 modern teaching spaces, areas for students to connect beyond the classroom and views that place students at the heart of one of the world’s most iconic landmarks: Table Mountain.

The move reflects ELC’s long-term commitment to creating an environment that raises the bar for student experience and brings our promise to life: a place for students to live, learn and grow in the heart of Cape Town.

As part of the University of Cape Town ecosystem, UCT English Language Centre offers more than language tuition. Students learn within one of Africa’s leading universities while experiencing Cape Town as an extension of the classroom. The result is an experience that combines academic credibility with personal growth and memorable student experiences.

“Dover House represents more than a new location,” said Simon Harrison, Director at UCT English Language Centre. “It reflects the direction we are taking as a language centre; one that combines the academic strength and reputation of UCT with a more modern and student-focused experience. We wanted to create a space where students feel part of something bigger: not only improving their English, but building confidence, forming global friendships and experiencing Cape Town in an authentic way.”

The move comes at a time when international students are placing greater value on destinations that offer more than classroom learning alone. Students are seeking environments that combine academic quality, community and authentic local experiences - areas in which Cape Town and UCT English Language Centre are uniquely positioned.

With Dover House now open, UCT English Language Centre looks ahead to welcoming future cohorts into a space designed for the next generation of international education.
