In a heartfelt ceremony filled with appreciation and respect, the College of the Canyons proudly unveiled the Michele Jenkins Team Room at Whitten Field. This dedication took place on Tuesday, April 16, ahead of the softball team's game against L.A. Valley College. The ceremony honoured Michele Jenkins, a dedicated board member and ardent supporter of the college's softball programme.

Faculty, staff, colleagues, family, and friends gathered to pay tribute to Jenkins, whose contributions to the college have left an indelible mark. As a student when the college first opened its doors in the autumn of 1969, Jenkins's journey with the College of the Canyons spanned decades. Her remarkable tenure as the longest-serving board member in the institution's history is a testament to her unwavering commitment and passion.

Jenkins was re-elected for the final time in 2021, a reflection of the immense trust and respect she earned within the college community. Her deep involvement with the college’s athletic programmes, especially softball, was well-known. She was a fervent supporter who always championed the importance of athletics in enriching students' lives. Sadly, Jenkins passed away on 6 February 2023, but her legacy continues to inspire.

The newly dedicated Michele Jenkins Team Room stands as a symbol of her enduring impact. It will serve as a gathering place for the softball team, fostering camaraderie and team spirit. The room, located within the softball facility at Whitten Field, is a fitting tribute to someone who believed in the power of sports to bring people together and build strong, resilient communities.
