The Babbel.com sponsorship consists of 200 vouchers which enable doctors to take a year-long online course in French. The majority of the MSF jobs take these doctors to far-away lands, mainly in francophone Africa, where the only means of communication is French. At the moment MSF, which is an international medical humanitarian organization created by doctors and journalists in France back in 1971, has projects in almost 70 countries including South Sudan, where they are providing emergency medical care to the many Sudanese refugees.
Babbel's CEO Markus Witte, claimed that, "We are very happy to continue supporting MSF volunteers in learning and enhancing a language which will help them to work more effectively in their field. We feel our product will particularly continue to be of great help since aid workers now can also learn on their iPhone, Android phone or iPad with our mobile Apps, which have proven to be very popular among language learners."
Babbel offers a wide range of languages which one can choose from, and the courses are aimed at those whose level ranges between that of an absolute beginner all the way to Intermediate. It is based on a combination of educational methodology and state-of-the-art technology that makes learning languages easy. Babbel has been online since 2008 and boasts over four million users on the web and on mobile devices.
