The Federation of English Language Teaching Organisations – FELTOM – is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Ms Maria Mifsud from Alpha School of English, who has been named Tourism Worker of the Year for the English Language Learning (ELT) sector at the 2025 Malta Tourism Awards. This prestigious recognition was presented by the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) as part of its annual awards celebrating excellence across the tourism industry in Malta.

Launched in 2025, the MTA Awards honour exceptional individuals and organisations that contribute to the success and sustainability of Malta’s tourism sector. Among its various categories, the Tourism Worker of the Year award seeks to recognise employees who demonstrate extraordinary commitment, professionalism, and service across a range of fields, including accommodation, catering, visitor attractions, and English language education.

In the case of the ELT sector, nominations for this award were open to all English language schools operating in Malta. Ms Mifsud’s selection from a competitive field of nominees highlights not only her personal dedication and excellence but also the calibre of professionals working within Malta’s language teaching industry.

FELTOM’s Role in Promoting Quality

FELTOM was honoured to serve as part of the judging panel for this award, bringing its long-standing expertise in English language education to the selection process. As the national federation representing accredited ELT institutions in Malta, FELTOM is deeply committed to upholding quality and professionalism across the sector. Its involvement in the judging process reflects its active role in supporting initiatives that promote excellence and recognise outstanding contributions to the field.

A Win for the FELTOM Community

The fact that this year’s winner is from a FELTOM member school further reinforces the high standards promoted through FELTOM’s accreditation framework and professional development efforts. Alpha School of English, like all FELTOM-accredited institutions, is committed to delivering a student-centred, high-quality educational experience—and this award affirms that commitment.

A Commitment to Continued Excellence

FELTOM strongly believes in celebrating the efforts of individuals who make a meaningful impact in the ELT industry. The Federation actively supports all awards and activities that recognise excellence, innovation, and dedication across the sector. The recognition of Ms Mifsud is a moment of pride not only for her and her school, but for the entire ELT community in Malta.

This achievement reflects positively on the island’s position as a leading destination for English language learning, and FELTOM remains dedicated to fostering an environment where educational and service excellence can continue to thrive.
