In collaboration with The Malta Trust Foundation, IDEA College proudly launched the IDEA Education Support Programme — a tailored initiative committed to making core academic subjects more accessible for children who need it most. The programme is built on one core belief: that education should empower every student, regardless of their background or learning needs.
In 2024, the pilot phase of the programme was introduced at Msida Primary School with the support of H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. The initiative targeted students facing educational gaps, particularly those from socio-economically vulnerable backgrounds, with a special focus on children at risk of disengagement. Through after-school sessions in key academic subjects — primarily Maltese — students were supported with customised, small-group instruction that focused on both language skills and confidence-building.
Pilot School: Msida Primary School
Students Reached: 30
Hours of Instruction: 56
Teaching Groups: 5 (grouped by academic level & specific needs)
3 groups received instruction in Maltese for non-native speakers
2 groups received Maltese instruction for native speakers
The programme’s strength lies in its flexible and student-centred design. Lessons are not only academic — they’re engaging, interactive, and often play-based. Educators are encouraged to go beyond traditional methods, using logic games, discussion, and personalised tasks to foster both comprehension and enjoyment.
As one participating teacher, Nicolette Fenech, shared:
“The response has been amazing — students love the sessions, eagerly participate, and often express how quickly time flies. Seeing their enthusiasm and progress is the greatest reward.”
Teachers reported visible improvements in communication, especially in Maltese. Non-native speakers expanded their vocabulary and started forming simple sentences with more ease, while native speakers enhanced their reading and writing skills. Across the board, students showed more enthusiasm, more confidence, and more engagement.
The programme’s success was so evident that by early 2025, new framework agreements were signed with two additional schools:
St. Ignatius College Ġużè Muscat Azzopardi
Qormi San Ġorġ Primary School
Educational support officially began at both schools in January 2025.
The IDEA Education Support Programme continues to scale its impact — not only by supporting academic success, but by helping students rediscover joy and confidence in learning. By collaborating with experienced educators and social organisations, we aim to keep transforming education into something more inclusive, meaningful, and lasting.
We’re proud to be part of a project that doesn’t just fill educational gaps — it builds bridges.
