Each year, the College recognises its top sporting talent through the prestigious Wallace and Webb Cup for Carmel Senior Sportswoman of the Year, celebrating students who have demonstrated exceptional skill, leadership, and commitment across a range of disciplines.
The nominees for the 2025 Carmel Senior Sportswoman of the Year represent a diverse selection of sports, showcasing the breadth of talent fostered within the school community:
Bridget Mihaljevich – Football and Water Polo
Captain of the Carmel Premier Water Polo Team and a member of the 1st XI Football Team, Bridget has led her teams to outstanding results, including 2nd place at the NH U18A Water Polo Nationals and 1st place at the NH U16A Nationals. She was also named in the New Zealand U17 Women’s National Water Polo Team – a testament to her dedication and talent.
Ella Henderson – Rugby, Touch, and Tag Football
A dynamic leader, Ella captains both the Premier Touch Team and the Silverdale/Carmel Rugby Team. She has represented North Harbour in the Farah Palmer Cup and the New Zealand U18 Rugby North Team. Her sporting success also extends to Tag Football, where she helped her North Harbour team claim national titles in both the U18 and Open Women’s grades.
Maisey Lendrum – Volleyball, Netball, and Athletics
As Captain of the Premier Volleyball Team and a member of the Premier Netball Team, Maisey has consistently demonstrated leadership and sporting excellence. She was named in the Volleyball New Zealand U20 Development Team and earned a silver medal at the New Zealand Provincial Volleyball Championships. Her versatility extends to athletics, where she is Carmel’s Senior Athletics Champion.
Nadja McGoon – Hockey and Volleyball
Captain of the Carmel 1st XI Hockey Team and a member of the Premier Volleyball Team, Nadja also plays for the North Harbour U18 Hockey Team. Her outstanding performance has earned her a place in the Future Black Sticks Women’s Squad, marking her as one of New Zealand’s most promising young hockey players.
Tessa Clinton – Football and Sailing
A talented multi-sport athlete, Tessa plays for both Carmel’s 1st and 2nd XI Football Teams while also excelling in sailing. She claimed the Female National Championship title in the 420 Class National Championships and was selected to represent New Zealand in the Open 420 Worlds in Turkey and later in the 420 Youth Worlds in Portugal.
Carmel College takes immense pride in its vibrant sporting culture, which supports students at all levels – from beginners to elite athletes. The school’s Sports and Physical Education Department, along with its dedicated coaches, team managers, and Sports Council, provide expert guidance and create an environment where teamwork, discipline, and enjoyment thrive.
