Lead5050 launches mobile mentoring platform

Lead5050 have recently launched a web and mobile app-based mentoring platform. Mentoring aligns with Lead5050’s mission to grow individuals' global professional network and facilitate women into positions of leadership. The organization has an existing mentoring programme, but this platform will enable the programme to scale. The platform is available to all Lead5050 members, individuals and organizations, institutions, associations, NGOs, agents and services providers who operate in international education. 

“Mentoring is important, not only because of the knowledge and skills mentees learn from mentors, but also because mentoring provides professional socialization, improves staff retention and supports career growth and success.” said Maria Castro, co-founder of Lead5050.

“Studies show that mentorship drives staff retention so at Lead5050, we wanted to create a program that would allow every organization and individual member to access the mentoring program quickly and seamlessly. Adopting and EdTech platform for the purposes of mentoring was the only way to create a real, immediate impact on our industry” said Ella Tyler, co-founder of Lead5050. Cornell’s School of Industrial and Labour Relations reports that mentoring increased promotion and retention rates of minority men and women by 15-38% compared to non-mentored minorities. 

Mentors and mentees will be able to connect over chat and video within the app, coordinating via its scheduling integration with their preferred calendar applications. Goals and action items can be defined and tracked with notes and feedback. Both mentors and mentees can establish networks of peer groups for discussions and to create libraries of shared resources and learnings. 

Co-founder Leanne Linacre draws the connection between mentoring and Lead5050's mission: “People cannot be what they cannot see, so we want to highlight the accomplishments that women in our industry have achieved and, through mentoring, to inspire others to do the same.”
