Chief Executive Tony Millns said: "We are really delighted to have appointed Huan and are looking forward to him starting work with us in February.
He has extensive experience at all levels in English language teaching and will be very well-placed to take forward our work to further professionalise the sector."
Commenting about his new role and responsibilities Mr. Japes claimed that he was looking forward to making a difference to professional lives in the industry mainly through the organization of courses and workshops for teachers and teachers' managers. He also stressed that he was particularly interested in looking at teachers' CPD (continuing professional development).
Originally, Mr. Japes (now aged 44), did not intend to work in the EFL industry, so much so, that his first degree was in History and History of Art. However, as time passed his desire to travel grew stronger and that is when he decided to follow the CertTESOL. His next step was to spend 18 months teaching in Turin. He eventually moved back to London, took an MA TESOL and consequently continued to carry out various EFL-related roles in London, before becoming training and recruitment manager for EF Education. Since September 2005 Mr. Japes has worked for Trinity College London as Chief Examiner TESOL.
Mr. Japes has now joined Annie Wright, who is responsible for Business Services and leads the International team, as deputy chief executive. We would all like to wish him the very best of luck on this new venture!
