|

By choosing CALES, you choose not only excellent tuition, but also the unparalleled cultural experience that comes from living and working in the midst of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Our teachers average 8 years of experience teaching Arabic as a foreign language and have taught students of widely varying nationalities. All our teachers graduated at the top of their university class and most have Master's degrees in either Arabic or English.
As a division of the University of Science and Technology www.ust.edu, CALES comes under the umbrella of the Union of Arab Universities. Credit from the University of Science and Technology is transferable and accepted by various institutions abroad, although universities outside the Middle East may require pre-consultation. We will assist in this wherever possible. On the satisfactory completion of a course, you will receive certification from the University of Science and Technology, Sana’a.

By choosing CALES, you choose not only excellent tuition, but also the unparalleled cultural experience that comes from living and working in the midst of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Nearby is Souq al-Melh, a warren of ancient streets with everything from traditional smithies to stalls piled high with exotic spices. Bab al-Yemen, the imposing entrance to the Old City and the symbolic gateway into Yemen itself, is less than five minutes walk from CALES.
Two minutes from CALES is The Great Mosque, built in the time of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and renovated later by Queen Arwa. Next door to the mosque is Dar al-Mokhtotat, a museum housing priceless Islamic artifacts, including one of the earliest known copies of the Qura’an.
Cutting through the old city of Sana'a and five minutes from CALES is The Saila, a paved seasonal wadi (water channel). This sweeping street with its raised walkways provides a breathtaking view of the traditional mud-brick houses towering on either side. Students can come here to stroll in the cool of the evening and escape the bustle of the souqs and alleys.
CALES is located within the heart of Old Sana’a, a bustling mediaeval, Arab city and UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of our students live within the walls of the Old City, either within CALES or in one of the nearby mud-brick towers, which provides an unparalleled cultural dimension to your study.

Transfer: Transportation to/from the airport upon arrival/departure will be provided by the school at no extra charge. Please inform the center of your flight details so as the school can arrange this for you in advance.
How to reach the destination: An airport shuttle service is provided from Sana’a International Airport to the Old City free of charge. Students arriving in Sana’a are requested to notify CALES’ staff of their complete flight-information 5 days prior to arrival. This may be done by phone, fax or email.
Sana’a has a good public transport system that allows one to travel round the city with ease. Transport includes public buses, which are extremely inexpensive, and taxis. Inter-city buses leave regularly and connect with most of the main cities in Yemen. Four-wheeled drives can be hired from tour agencies (with or without a driver), for travel outside of Sana’a.
What happens on the first day of school: - Placement test
- Payment of the fees
- Going out with one of the staff to familiarize yourself to some of the places around the center
( supermarkets, restaurants, internet cafes, exchangers, book-stores,etc.)
Activities: Going out with one of the staff to familiarize yourself to some of the places around the center ( supermarkets, restaurants, internet cafes, exchangers, book-stores,etc.)
Traveling outside Sana'a usually requires a permit. To obtain this you will need to inform the director of your plans and he will produce a letter, which you then need to take to the tourist police along with your passport. You may also need some copies of your passport; the pages with your picture and your visa.
How to get to the school the first day: Sana’a has a good public transport system that allows one to travel round the city with ease. Transport includes public buses, which are extremely inexpensive, and taxis. Inter-city buses leave regularly and connect with most of the main cities in Yemen.
Visa information: At least one month prior to studying, you should email the center for an application form. You will need to submit this form with a scanned image of your passport (photo and information page of passport), along with $300 sent via Western Union to secure your course and accommodation. We recommend people to get their visas from the Yemen embassies before their arrival. If they need the acceptance letters from CALES, they should inform us. Sometimes, we issue visas for students who don't have Yemen embassies in their countries.
What is included?: All prices are comprehensive and include assistance finding accommodation, support in obtaining visas and help arranging travel inside the country. A shuttle service to and from Sana'a International Airport is provided free of charge.
